Last night I was binge watching Netflix, because I have my accounting exam. Who wants to study that, eh?
In the middle of the two idiotic rom-coms, I also saw a documentary "The Social Dilemma".
When you find it on your Netflix feed, by the name itself you shall think, "Oh! It is going to tell us how internet is scary and etc etc.," and you'll continue to scroll the feed to watch something else. Why? Because YOU cannot face the truth, that the SOCIAL PLATFORMS where you want to spend so much time on, are actually owning you?
Artificial Intelligence, isn't just about the robots killing people in the future. It is in the NOW. It is running your lives. The people who themselves were a part of the platforms, like Tristan Harris - share the scary impact that social media has on the people around you. For example, take the rumors spread on Corona Virus? You think those people were not manipulated on believing that? No one is that stupid. It's the AI that makes you watch the videos that you "once" clicked on and enjoyed. It'll show you more information about it, and eventually take you far away from what the other segment of society believes. It is not scary enough?
Step on your shoes people, and realize how you are NOT in control of your mind. While you check on your Ex's feed and then you get an "ad" for the expensive shoes or hair-gel, showing that you aren't good enough - is the reality of digital marketing. That is, Catching you on your weakest spot.
When the products are free, you are the product itself. Your time, is the product. And you are willingly throwing it away into the hands of billionaires. Why else would the suicide rates and depression rates be on a rise only in THIS era? What is the major difference?
I see it, when I read tweets of people ridiculing each other on twitter. Everyone here wants to put down someone else, or they take the comments on their feed way too seriously as if its THEIR LIFE.
Don't let yourself be manipulated that way. And watch this Documentary to be aware of the harms these platforms may have on you, if you don't use wisely. But what if, using wisely is also not good enough?
Watching it may give me anxiety. But should I anyway watch it ?
ReplyDeleteIt won't give you anxiety, but just a reality check on why you have "anxiety too often".
DeleteUse all your social media platforms on your computer only. Keep your smart phone free from it. Life will be much easier.
ReplyDeleteSocial media hides the reality that you are alone being alone give you power to explore and guess what i am here:-)...
